DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018 is about to enter its Playoffs stage and only 7 matches are left to be played until the champion is decided.
Astralis vs. FaZe Clan
Based on its recent results, Astralis is the strongest team at this tournament. And by a large margin. They won 31 out of their last 38 maps and so far have looked unstoppable.
FaZe Clan, at least on paper, was one of the main contenders as well, but results seem to prove otherwise. They finished in 2nd place in Group A, after taking a 2 – 0 beating from their ELEAGUE Major nemesis, Cloud9. Going into this Quarterfinals match, I don’t see them winning against Astralis.
Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. Fnatic
Ninjas in Pyjamas is playing incredibly well at the moment and it looks like the addition of dennis to the team has been a great idea. The Swedes have qualified for the Playoffs of DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018 by winning group B with two impressive victories: one against SK Gaming and one against mousesports.
Fnatic is almost for sure a top 3 team at the moment, having won Intel Extreme Masters Season XII World Championship and World Electronic Sports Games this year. At this tournament, Fnatic finished in 2nd place in Group C after a close defeat against Natus Vincere. The team still looks strong though, and it definitely has what it takes to beat NiP in the Quarterfinals.
Natus Vincere vs. mousesports
Soon after the separation between TACO and SK Gaming, Na’Vi went through a dangerous period and was close to losing both s1mple and flamie. Fortunately for them, the rumors did not materialize and their roster remained intact. As a result, the CIS team is as strong as it could be but it’s still completely dependent on s1mple’s ability to perform at exceptional levels every single game.
Right now, mousesports is in great shape and has already won two tournaments this year: StarLadder & i-League StarSeries Season 4 and V4 Future Sports Festival Budapest 2018. Based on head to head statistics and overall performance throughout the year, mousesports is slightly favored to win in the Quarterfinals against Na’Vi. However, the CIS team has had a better performance so far at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018, and s1mple is playing out of his mind right now. This leads me to believe that Na’Vi will actually win here and cause a slight upset, given that most people expect mousesports to be the winner.
Cloud9 vs. Gambit Esports
Cloud9 is going through a period of transition caused by the acquisition of FNS, who is now the team’s new in-game leader. So far so good for the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 champions, who qualified for the Playoffs with 2 victories against G2 Esports and FaZe Clan.
On the other side, Gambit Esports has looked fairly strong at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018, but its poor overall performance prior to this event and throughout 2018 clearly suggests that the team won’t be consistent and will most likely lose against most of the top contenders.
